Reading in 2021

This year I had set myself a goal of reading 1000 picture books. Unfortunately, I did not reach that goal. I did, however, read 523 picture books. (Or at least that is how many I recorded.) I also read 43 novels, mostly middle grade with a few YA and adult novels thrown in. In a year that also involved an international move, buying a house, and starting a new job, I'll count that a success!

The world has changed greatly in the past year and our children feel it. Despite our best efforts to keep things “normal” the world is not normal. The so-called “new normal” has both advantages and drawbacks. Some days we might enjoy spending more time connecting with immediate family. Other days we might only wish to escape! If you have children who are feeling unsettled or anxious, these books might help. They reassure children of God’s presence and love. They gently whisper that there is hope even when life is hard or it seems hopeless.
